What is Mother Tincture?

Mother Tincture is a Herbal Extract which is made from herbs, chemicals, etc.

How SBL prepares Mother Tinctures?

SBL maintains quality standards while preparing mother tinctures and follows SOPs at every stage of processing.

To make Mother Tinctures, Essential Raw Materials are needed such as:

• Pure herbs
• Purest ENA (Extra Neutral Alcohol)
• Demineralized water

Herbs are selected at a specific time when they are rich in their active constituents.

Plants that are cultivated without the use of fertilizers or pesticides and ensure the bio-availability of high grade raw material and active substances.

SBL is one of the very few companies in the world which tests  each herb to Color reaction, UV test and High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) system.

HPTLC plays a major role in the analysis of Mother Tincture as it allows qualitative and quantitative assessment of phytochemicals.

Other Tests Done for Mother Tincture such as

• Specific gravity
• Total solid content
• PH specification
•  Lamda (λ) max

are beyond HPI specifications.

The moisture in herbs is determined by Electronic Infrared Moisture Analyzer and graded as per HPI standards to give the right balance between moisture and menstruum.

Graded herbs are kept in stainless steel containers for at least 3 weeks in a mixture of Extra Neutral Alcohol and Demineralised Water.

The macerated residue is pressed by Hydraulic Presses made of High Grade Stainless Steel.

For maximum extraction from herbs, different pressure is applied on each herb, this is an exclusive practice in SBL

Mother tinctures are filtered to prevent any impurities from passing through to the next step. Depending on the intrinsic properties, some herbs are also subjected to vacuum filtration.

Mother tinctures are packaged in Neutra glass bottles.
